Fishing is one of the major attraction of Port Hope. Every year it becomes final stop for many enthusiastic People who love fishing even in extreme whether conditions.Fishing is excellent from the beginning of May to the end of July. Mid-Summer will see many species entering the river, including Pike, Walleye, Perch, Catfish, Smallmouth Bass and Freshwater Drum. September will start to show the immense Chinook Salmon.

These fish will achieve sizes of 30 to 40 pounds Ganaraska river offers some of the best trout and salmon fishing in the province and draws people from great distances to fish the spectacular trout and salmon runs that occur in the spring and fall.The Port Hope Conservation Area is a popular fishing place just north of the Hwy. 401 Bridge. Other good spots to try are Gages Creek at the east end of town, Sylvan Glen Conservation Area, north of town, and the pond at the Garden Hill Conservation Area. All provide excellent fishing opportunities.
Lake Ontario has a year-round fishery. The mouth of the Ganaraska River in town offers shore fishing in the winter. In the summer months there are numerous charter boat operators who will take eager anglers to the open water.
Rice Lake is a short drive north of Port Hope. This long shallow lake provides a variety of species including Crappie, Bass, Perch, Walleye and Muskie. Tournaments are held regularly. It is advised to check the annual Fishing Regulations Summary available at license issuers, bait shops, marinas, and MNR offices.
